Default wushu

i just started Wushu. does anyone here train in wushu?

i am really enjoying it, but man is it hard. i am hoping all the really deep stances and moves will help strengthen my hips and increase my range of motion.

i only go once a week for 2 hrs... i am cross training to improve my muay thai. i have noticed that i am not using my hips enough in my muay thai punches/kicks so i am hoping wushu will help me strengthen that and increase my balance and core strength.... and i have been missing traditional martial arts, so this will fill that need.

once i learn the basics i get to learn drunken style i have been wanting to learn that forever!! that will definately help my core strength and balance!

i really want to learn drunken style. i love the concept of being in control while allowing your body to move in seemingly uncontroled movements. in order to make the movements you really need to "let go" and allow you body to move freely and relaxed while trusting that you have control over it.

because i have osteoarthritis and am often in pain, i don't really trust my body anymore. i feel like it betrayed me or let me down..... if that makes sense..... a lot of the damage to my joints was caused by martial arts, so although i want to continue to practice martial arts i do not trust that i have the ability to. i need to learn to trust my body.

that is also why i want to get into fighting (muay thai). i need to test myself and discover what i am capable of. i want/need to discover that my body is much more capable than i think and it is only fear holding me back....

.... having said that, i also started physiotherapy recently to make sure that i am moving in a safe way and developing the muscles i need to to support my joints.

yeah... i missed last class because i was out of town. i am in the little kid class which kinda sucks because they goof off so much that it takes away from training time. but i am learning a lot! i unfortunately am still really struggling because since my hips are so bad i have no strength in my hips so i cannot hold the stance very long and some i cannot evn do but i am getting better. and the stregthening of my hips will help in all aspects of my life!

i am also really impressed with the instructor! i have watched the advanced class, so i know what eventually i will hopefully be able to do. i am really looking forward to that!

no, it is not that they are bad at wushu, it is that they are disruptive and goof off. i think the level is moderate or something. it would be less frustrating if i was not so focused on learning the basics as soon as i can so i can move on to funner harder things.
