I've got to say that the competitors in the 2004 TKD match didn't really look like they were taking each other seriously. They both looked skilled, but there is something missing. The closest word I can think of to describe the missing element is "intensity." The worst, though, is their almost complete disregard for their arms. I now see why Sensei always said "If you're in a match against a taekwondo artist, step in and throw a punch immediately. They won't know how to deal with it."
The Judo match was...interesting. It looked like Japan put a sumo wrestler in the ring. The way he turtled up at the beginning of the match was so strange. I suppose, as long as it's a valid technique, he was expending almost zero energy while his opponent nearly threw his back out trying to move him.
