Default Training technique

hey, sorry i have been MIA, back now..... was busy with school and work...

i just wanted to share a training thing that we do at muay thai with you that i think is really cool. we do a conditioning thing where we hit eachother to get use to the pain.... i have done this plenty in the past, so that alone is nothing special...... the cool thing is that we do not only the more standard blunt striking to the abs, legs, and arms, we also do stinging slaps to the body. i have never done that before and i think that is quite neat. i have gotten a lot of stinging slaps to my body, but i have never had the chance in training to get a lot done at once to learn how best to deal with it.

Hi ya Disgruntled,

I been MIA as well, glad to hear from ya again.

I heard of that conditioning technique. Lots of modern schools don't like doing no more because it's rough house material -- but hey? It does work, man.

This is one reason I want to take up paintball. I've noticed how much more easily I can work through a concussive hit since I've taken up bo (what with a 6' length of wood repeatedly hitting my arms and all), but a lighter sting still stops me cold.

yeah, i dont know if it is because of my past training, or just a human thing, but i can take blunt pain much much easier than stinging pain.

I've done paintball, and it doesn't half sting. The last time I did it I won the Tournament award for the best injury when I took a paintball straight into the forehead which split it open so the paint mixed with my own blood and also it gave me a concussion but I still enjoyed myself!

LMAO!!!!! i must be sick because that does sound fun...

i have not tried paintball, ony airsoft which is more realistic, but not very painful for the most part.

How is airsoft more realistic? I know the guns look and feel more real, but they've got a really limited range.
I've got a paintball pistol that has a feel very similar to a Desert Eagle, though, of course, it doesn't have anywhere near the kick. ;D

they are a large range of guns that all shoot as close as possible to the real guns... even sniper rifles. and i think they are faster than paint balls.

The "safe" fps on an airsoft is higher than the "safe" fps on a paintball gun, but not enough to significantly increase its range (largely due to the pellet's lighter weight, which allows air resistance to impact its flight more). The general maximum effective range of a well-built airsoft sniper rifle isn't much more than the maximum effective range of a well-built paintball sniper rifle. (I've done my homework since last posting )

From what I can tell, the airsofts are just more often made to look and feel (as far as trigger, butt, etc...) more like a real gun (not counting the companies that make milsim stuff, like Ariakon). They definitely make for a more realistic looking scenario (especially to bystanders) than typical paintball guns.
