Default Fav Grappling technique?

any kinda joint locks, manipulations, grapples, chokes, holds, or whatever.

a counterpart to the fav strikes thread

i love the hapkido wrist locks because they're just so easy to do and drops a guy like it's nothing hehe. armbars i also love because it's one of the few grappling techniques i know how to apply properly hahaha.

flying armbar looks totally kickass tho.

The closest thing to a grappling move that I like would be to step outside when an opponent strikes or grabs at the chest, catch the wrist, start pushing away. When the opponent pushes back, pull, step behind knee, hip-throw, strike.
I'm not a fan of grappling. I prefer keeping my distance, and focus on escapes when it comes to grappling techniques.

my fav grappling/joint lock technique is the one where you take their arm behind their back. it is easy to do and i feel like i have more control over my opponent in that position as opposed to other locks..... i will generally either have the person up against a wall or take them down to the ground to assist in controlling them.

because you have to slip in between the arm and ribs to get to the person's back, one of my students once argued that when going under their arm you are vulnerable to a head lock.... we tried the many times to catch a person as they went threw the gap, but we found that it actually made to easier to make the joint lock when the person tries to grab you.

you can't just hold the arm up behind their backs. you need to grab them too or they can just wriggle out of it by turning and facing towards you. it's extremely easy, they taught us how in wing chun.

i like the figure 4 armbar it is simple and can easily transfer into several different variations including a number of take-downs and throws so you can ether continue to grapple or create distance to escape or regain striking range.

heres a link to budoshin ju-jitsu demonstrating the figure 4 armbar

hence the reason that i said i would have them held up against a wall or on the ground.... most people are unaware of the fact that you can escape that lock, and if you apply enough pressure the pain would keep them controlable. ideally i would take them down to the ground and kneel on their temple anyway.

i've never tried to escape it on the ground, but unless something else is being done to hold me there i can easily spin away from being held up against the wall.

i'd imagine u'd have much better control on the ground tho because u'd have the leverage and also what u said about kneeling on the temple haha.

I really like the wrist locks and takedowns such as sankyo, kotegaeshi, omote gyaku, Ura gyaku and Oni Kudaki. One of the main reasons is the use of physiology and body mechanics rather than brute strength!

Oh, yeah, the other grappling move that I like is the Navy's method of dealing with drunk sailors that need to come back to base.
You need a nightstick or something of the sort in one hand.
Approach the sailor from behind.
Grab the sailor by the collar with one hand.
Thrust stick between the sailor's thighs, turn so it runs across the body, perpendicular to both legs.
Lift.

This is actually a fairly efficient method of lifting someone, and leaves them unable to struggle against you, in most cases.
