Naginata Do is the study of the use of a spear-like weapon, similar to the European halberd or glaive, called the naginata. While originally a weapon of war, the naginata now has a form appropriate for modern competitive sport. The invention of the wooden form of the naginata enabled the safe study of the ancient forms. There are two types of naginata practice today, the Modern Naginata and the Classical Naginata.
