The West Point Judo Athlete Development Handbook used to be the roadmap for our program’s success from 2009-2014. This document allowed our athletes to take into account the plan and track their performance. It is imperative that your athletes are a part of the process and that information about what must be accomplished is transparent and to be had to them. As young athletes, we never cared much for details as the coaches would have everything ready when we came into practice. Then again, allowing the athlete to take some ownership of the training program can also be impactful in accomplishing the team’s goals. Coaches and program leaders develop a strategy but too frequently leave athletes at the hours of darkness robbing them of their initiative to take ownership in the goal attainment process. In this handbook, you are going to find the process that used to be used to lay the foundation for each season of the West Point Judo program.
